Hi, my name is Ernesto Martínez, and I am from a small town near Barcelona, Spain and yes, I do like the smell of fixer.
I started taking photographs as a hobby more than twenty years ago and have been doing it ever since. I still see myself as an absolute beginner... and I am afraid that's where I really find comfortable. There's no clear artistic goal at sight, only the almost therapeutic joy of the whole process: going out, wandering around with an open eye for any chunk of reality that rings a mysterious bell inside, trying to make it mine and then, maybe, if magic happens in those dark places, finding in the final image a distant and previously unnoticed aspect, not only of what was in front of the camera but also of who was behind. I guess that's also the reason why I feel more comfortable shooting things than people, although the human footprint is almost always the real subject of my images.
