Steven Louis Ray

Photography has been an increasingly serious hobby of mine since 2005. Getting into it then, digital was king. But within two years, I had my first medium format TLR and was shooting 120 Tri-X. I did a great deal of fashion photography for a few years, but ended up switching to landscapes around 2011 and have never looked back. Turns out trees don't need makeup artists or direction on how to pose. I also have occasional forays into what I call ‘urban moments’.

Medium format is 95% of what I do, and two-thirds of that is black-and-white. I just love the look and can't get enough of it. My current camera buddies are made by Mamiya, Bronica and Canon, though I geek out whenever I see a film camera of any sort, and large format is beginning to call my name.

I took my first two darkroom classes during the summer of 2015, and I want to make a push as an artist and see how far I can go. There's nothing more satisfying than doing something that you love.
