POLAROID ROUNDUP | JULY 2017 | ABIGAIL CRONE
Macro photography with instant film cameras is a tricky thing. I’ve wasted countless blurred shots trying to get as close as I can to something with my SX-70 or packfilm cameras. Instant film tends not to lend itself to quick shooting, which makes camera shake more likely, and also makes macro photos pretty difficult. No matter how still I try to stay, I never fail to move ever so slightly at just the last second and end up with a rose that’s a red blur. When it works out though it’s amazing. People are always surprised at how crisp a macro instant film photo can appear, and the background dissolves into the most perfect hazy bokeh.
I was impressed with the macro submissions that came through this month. I can see the patience and focus it took to capture these mesmerizing little details. The submissions that appealed to me most appeared to be a small piece of something much larger. I can just imagine the stories behind each of the photos I chose, and I keep wanting to look at them again to fill in the missing parts.
SUBMIT
Every month the FSC features a Polaroid Roundup that is open to all. You may only submit one (1) photo and it *must* be a jpeg file and no larger than 20 MB. Please title the file "Title_Camera_Film_YourName.jpg" so that we may properly credit you if your photo is selected.
Next month will be curated by Lucy Wainwright and the theme is "Other Worlds." You can submit your photo here.
